New Delhi: In a gripping operation captured on CCTV, Delhi’s Crime Branch arrested a 37-year-old notorious criminal, Javed alias Pawwa alias Sunny alias Bablu, wanted in a gangrape case. The arrest took place on April 26, with cops nabbing the history-sheeter in Wazirabad.
Javed, a resident of Tagore Garden and a history-sheeter of PS Khyala, had been on the run after being accused in a gangrape case registered at PS Nabi Karim, Central District. Based on specific intelligence inputs, the Northern Range-II (NR-II) team of the Crime Branch laid a trap on April 26 near Jagatpur Pusta in the Wazirabad area.
CCTV Footage Shows Dramatic Arrest
The arrest video, which has now gone viral, shows the dramatic moment Javed was pinned to the ground by the police as he struggled to escape, all on a busy public road with stunned motorists watching the scene unfold. As officers closed in, Javed attempted to flee and even opened fire on the police.
Despite the danger, the Crime Branch team engaged him in a brief scuffle and managed to overpower and arrest him without letting any further shots be fired. The CCTV footage of the arrest clearly shows the intensity of the moment, with officers tackling the accused to the ground and others quickly joining in to secure him.
The police recovered one pistol, one empty cartridge, and five live cartridges from Javed. A fresh case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Arms Act has been registered. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Harsh Indora, while speaking to ANI, stated that this operation was part of a larger crackdown to curb serious criminal activities and bring habitual offenders to justice.

Details On The Gangrape Case
The investigation into the gangrape case revealed disturbing details. In May 2024, the complainant, a woman, had come into contact with a man named Ankush. Following repeated sexual assaults and a miscarriage, she alleged that in December 2024, Javed, a friend of Ankush, arrived at her residence armed with a pistol and raped her at gunpoint. The crime took place after Javed came out of Tihar jail, as per reports by journalist Lavely Bakshi.
While Ankush had already been arrested, Javed had been absconding for months, frequently changing his hideouts to evade capture. With nearly three dozen criminal cases registered against him, Javed's arrest marks a major breakthrough for the cops.
