A man has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor in Uttarakhand's Haridwar, police said on Friday.

The accused, identified as Deepak Saini, was caught disguised as Lord Shiva.

"In Operation Kalanemi, Haridwar Police made a major revelation: the accused rapist, wearing the garb of Neelkanth, was caught preying on a girl," Haridwar Police said in a statement.

According to reports, the accused touted himself as omniscient and a devotee of Trikaldarshi to lure women and girls into committing wrongful acts.

The police said that the accused lured the minor girl with the promise of fulfilling her wishes and sexually assaulted her.

The accused assumed the identity of a fake Kalanemi Baba to escape arrest.

The police are also searching for other victims of this predator.

The accused, Deepak Saini, is a resident of Subhash Nagar, Jwalapur, a town located near Haridwar.

In a separate incident, a woman and two men were arrested in Haridwar in June this year, after the woman allegedly allowed her boyfriend and his aide to rape her 13-year-old daughter.

All three accused had been charged under different sections of the POCSO Act and the BNS, including gang-rape.
