Prayagraj: A heart wrenching tragedy unfolded in Prayagraj’s Meja area on Wednesday morning when the bodies of four children, missing since the previous afternoon, were found floating in a water-filled pit near a brick kiln in Bedouli village. All four victims were from labourer families, including two siblings.
Children namely, Hunar, his sister Vaishnavi, Khesari Lal and Kanha, had gone missing on Tuesday evening when their families had gone out for MGNREGA work. Search continued through the night, and a missing person report was filed by Meja police.
On Wednesday morning, villagers discovered the children’s bodies in a large pit filled with rainwater near a brick kiln. The pit was allegedly created due to excessive soil excavation.

Emergency teams, including ACP Meja and SDM Surendra Pratap Yadav, arrived at the scene. The children were declared dead at CHC Ramnagar. Officials confirmed they drowned while playing. The administration announced ₹4 lakh gratia for each family.
The incident has left the entire tribal settlement in mourning, with grief and anger palpable among the families and villagers.
