Lucknow: A man in Lucknow brutally murdered his in laws on Wednesday night in full view of his wife, who is a government school teacher. The incident took place in the Gadhi Kanaura village under the Alambagh police station limits. The accused, identified as Jagdeep, allegedly attacked his father-in-law and mother-in-law with a knife after a heated argument.
According to police, Jagdeep visited his in-laws home under the pretext of meeting his child. He was carrying a bag containing a knife and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. An altercation began after he was questioned by his father-in-law. During the argument, Jagdeep held the older man's mouth shut and slit his throat. When the mother-in-law rushed to intervene, she too was fatally attacked.
Jagdeep’s wife, Poonam, told police she had warned her husband not to visit if he had consumed alcohol. Despite this, he arrived and quickly turned violent. “He killed them right in front of my eyes,” she said, sobbing.
After the murder, Jagdeep reportedly stabbed the bodies multiple times. Local residents were alerted by Poonam’s screams and managed to catch Jagdeep before he could flee. They handed him over to the police. Authorities confirmed that Poonam had been living with her parents for the past two months due to ongoing domestic abuse.
DCP Central, Ashish Srivastava, stated that the victims, Anant Ram and his wife Asha Devi, were declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Jagdeep and Poonam had been married since 2016 but were reportedly facing marital issues.
Jagdeep had also allegedly taken money from Poonam under the false pretext of starting a business. The accused has been taken into custody, and an FIR has been registered. Poonam, devastated by the double tragedy, collapsed multiple times following the incident and is currently being consoled by family and neighbors.
