Mainpuri: Chaos erupted at a Public Welfare Department (PWD) office in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri after a contractor and his men allegedly attacked a clerk on Wednesday. The incident was recorded on camera. The video of the incident surfaced online, and soon it became viral.
The reason for the violent altercation is not yet known. However, Uttar Pradesh's Congress unit claimed that the clerk was attacked as the latter sent the contractor’s bill for verification before payment. The contractor also hurled casteist slurs against the PWD clerk. As per the grand old party, the senior clerk is Dalit.
In the video, it could be seen that the contractor and his men overpowered the clerk. They even pulled the government official's hair. The clerk's colleagues attempted to intervene and stop the brawl.

The Mainpuri Police have taken cognisance of the matter. A case has been registered at the local police station under the relevant sections. "The officer-in-charge has been directed to take necessary legal action in the matter," the police said.
Meanwhile, the Congress slammed the Uttar Pradesh government over the incident. "The goons know that targeting Dalit employees is possible today without any fear. In Yogi’s rule, the seeds of caste hatred are deeply entrenched," the UP Congress said while sharing the video.
A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter. However, there are no reports of any arrests in the matter.
