US Deportation: Punjab Police Forms SIT To probe Illegal Human Trafficking

The Fact-Finding Committee/Special Investigation Team has been directed to take appropriate action as per law and facts and take action against any person found involved in committing illegalities and indulging in illegal migration/human trafficking.

Chandigarh: Punjab police on Friday constituted a four-member fact-finding committee/special investigation team (SIT) to combat and investigate the illegal human trafficking and illegal migration arising from the deportation of Indian citizens domiciled in Punjab from the United States of America (USA).

For record, The US military aircraft carrying 104 illegal immigrants which landed at Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International airport in Amritsar Wednesday, included 30 of them from Punjab, 33 each from Haryana and Gujarat, 3 each from UP and Maharashtra and 2 from Chandigarh.

Announcing the constitution of the said committee, Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, said that the four-member SIT has been constituted under the chairmanship of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), NRI Affairs, Praveen Sinha. The members of the SIT include ADGP, Internal Security, Shive Kumar Verma, IGP Provisioning, Dr S Boopathi and DIG Border, Range Range, Satinder Singh.

The SIT will focus on identifying the individuals involved in these illegal activities and ensuring they are held accountable for their actions, besides, identifying the persons involved in the illegal activities, he said.

DGP Yadav further said that the committee/SIT has been directed to take appropriate action as per law and facts and take action against any person found involved in committing illegalities and indulging in illegal migration/human trafficking.

4 AGENTS BOOKED IN HARYANA, 1 IN PUNJAB

Meanwhile, the Haryana police has registered three cases at different police stations in Karnal district against four agents of the district on the complaints lodged by the family members of three youths who were among those deported from the US on Wednesday. The complainant alleged that the accused had lured the youths under the pretext of sending them to the US without any hurdles.

Likewise, Punjab police also booked a travel agent after the family of a deportee lodged a complaint against a travel agent of Amritsar who had charged over Rs 50 lakh and promised to send him to the US on a valid visa but instead sent him illegally.
