In a shocking New Year's Day incident, a 24-year-old man allegedly murdered his mother and four sisters at Hotel Sharan Jeet in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow.
The accused, identified as Arshad from Agra, reportedly drugged his family members before slitting their wrists, leading to their deaths. Police recovered five bodies from the hotel room after being alerted to the incident.
DCP Central Raveena Tyagi, in a video statement, said, "Today, the bodies of five people were found in a room at Hotel Sharan Jeet. The local police reached the spot, and a person named Arshad, approximately 24 years old and a resident of Agra, was detained. During the preliminary interrogation, he admitted that due to a family dispute, he had killed his four sisters and mother. Further interrogation is being conducted, and the investigation is ongoing."
Among the deceased were two minors, an 18-year-old, and a 19-year-old. The family had checked into the hotel on December 30, according to hotel staff.
Preliminary police investigation suggests that a family dispute led to the murders. The accused's father, who was present at the hotel, is currently absconding, and police have launched a search operation to locate him.
Lucknow police have taken Arshad into custody, and interrogation is underway. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
