Ballia: A video from Uttar Pradesh exposing the state's healthcare system has surfaced. The footage shows a patient being treated under torchlight in the emergency ward of Ballia District Hospital.

The incident took place on Friday (25 July) evening when both the local electricity supply and the hospital's generator failed, resulting in a blackout that lasted for about 45 minutes. As a result, doctors had to treat patients using mobile torchlight.

Dr S.K. Yadav, Chief Medical Superintendent of the hospital, told news agency PTI that a technical fault in the generator coincided with a broader power outage in the area.

Aam Aadmi Party posted the video on micro-blogging website X saying that this is the truth of the healthcare system in Yogi's rule.

"This is not a scene from some movie but the reality of the Emergency Ward of a government hospital in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh," AAP added.

AAP further said, "Due to the lack of light in the hospital, doctors are treating a critically injured person under the glow of a mobile phone's flashlight."

UP Congress posted another video from the scene, showing relatives of a patient fanning him with hand fans while the patients lay bare-chested on benches outside the hospital.

UP Congress said, "Check out the 'world-class facilities' available at Ballia's district hospital- Patients admitted to the emergency ward kept suffering after the power went out. The backup generator didn’t start either.. probably, as usual, it had no fuel. The truth is that the BJP government has neither the policy nor the intention to improve healthcare facilities!"

Action After Video Goes Viral

After the video went viral on social media, authorities have now installed inverters in the emergency medical room to avoid such situations in the future.
