Baliya: A disturbing incident took place in Bansdih town, in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday. A young man died after suffering an electric shock while carrying out electrical work at the house of a man named Sanjeev Pandey. Following his death, the deceased’s family and local residents staged a protest, demanding justice and compensation.
The family of the deceased youth and locals blocked the road for two hours, demanding immediate registration of a case against Sanjeev Pandey and proper compensation to the victim's family.
As the protest escalated, a clash broke out between the demonstrators and the police, intensifying to the point where a lathicharge was carried out. A video has surfaced showing police beating women with batons.
Another video of a protesting woman and man taking to the Circle Officer (CO) and complaining about the local police has surfaced. A woman can be heard demanding the arrest of the accused. In the video, a police officer is heard assuring the protesters that the accused would be arrested by midnight. To this, one of the protesters asks, "Are you a man of your word?"The officer responds, "If I weren't a man of my word, I wouldn’t be the DSP."
Police Reaction
ASP Balia reacting to the incident said, "On 29.07.25, while performing domestic electrical work, Rakesh Shah, son of Satendra Turaha, from Bansdih police station, Ballia, was declared dead by doctors during treatment after being electrocuted."

The police also confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused. Regarding the lathi charge, the police said that the protesters were misbehaving with bystanders and, despite repeated warnings, refused to disperse. As a result, a mild use of force was exercised to control the situation and disperse the crowd.
