Udhampur: In a horrifying case of dowry violence, a woman from Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur was severely beaten up by her husband after she allegedly refused to meet his demand for Rs 10 lakh in cash and car.
As per a Republic TV report, the accused, identified as Azam Ali, is a serving soldier. The disturbing incident was caught on camera and circulated on social media, wherein, the man was seen mercilessly attacking his wife, Raveen Begum.
Woman Hospitalised After Assualt
The assault took place in the Malhar area of Udhampur. In the viral clip, Ali can be seen slapping, punching and dragging his wife by the hand, all while hurling abuse and threats at her. Despite her visible distress and desperate cries, he continued the assault.
Raveen was rushed to Government Medical College (GMC), Udhampur, with serious injuries. Her family, who filed a formal complaint with Rehambal Police, alleged that she had been facing ongoing physical and emotional abuse linked to dowry harassment.
Police registered a case under IPC Section 498A (cruelty by husband) and other relevant provisions. Azam Ali was arrested and is currently in custody. News18 quoted police officials confirming that the investigation is underway.
Similar Dowry Case Reported In Lucknow
In a separate and equally disturbing incident, a 32-year-old woman named Madhu Singh was found hanging in her Lucknow home just five months after marriage. Her husband, Merchant Navy officer Anurag Singh, initially claimed she died by suicide, but her family has alleged dowry torture and murder.
According to her father, Anurag had demanded Rs 15 lakh as dowry before the wedding and continued to harass Madhu even after receiving the amount. Post-mortem confirmed death by hanging, but suspicious details, including a delayed police call, absence of household staff, and food delivery just hours before, led to Anurag’s arrest.
He has been booked under the Dowry Prohibition Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
