Andhra Pradesh: A 54-year-old man, Cheeli Singaiah, lost his life after being run over by a vehicle from the convoy of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in Guntur district. The tragic accident, which reportedly occurred on Wednesday near Yetukuru, was caught on video and has since gone viral on social media, intensifying public outrage and leading a formal investigation.

Singaiah, a resident of Vengalayapalem village and a YSRCP supporter, had gathered along the roadside to pay his respects during Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to Rentapalli village in Sattenapalli mandal, where the leader was scheduled to unveil a statue. As the convoy passed, Singaiah reportedly attempted to shower flowers on the former CM. In the process, he was struck by the vehicle Reddy was travelling in.

Horrifying Moments Caught On Cam

Video footage shows the moment Singaiah falls near the vehicle, which continues to move forward without stopping, with the wheels apparently running over his neck. Eyewitnesses rushed to his aid and alerted the police. Singaiah was shifted to the Guntur Government Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Police officials, including Guntur SP Satish Kumar and Guntur Range IG Sarva Shrestha Tripathi, confirmed the incident and the circulation of the video. “It’s unfortunate that the victim died in such a manner. Preliminary findings indicate that around 30 to 35 vehicles were in the convoy, even though only three were officially permitted,” said IG Tripathi, as quoted by Deccan Chronicle. “Action will be taken after a thorough inquiry to determine how unauthorised vehicles joined the convoy,” the official added.

Victim's Family Demands Thorough Probe

The incident has sparked widespread criticism regarding the lack of security oversight and convoy management. Singaiah’s family has demanded justice and a full investigation into the circumstances leading to his death. The government is expected to review existing convoy protocols and implement stricter measures to prevent such breaches in the future. Police have registered a case and are actively investigating whether negligence or intent was involved.
