Chennai: In a horrific crime, a 19-year-old youth allegedly sexually assaulted an 80-year-old woman and dragged the resisting frail victim leading to her death in Ranipet district’s Kathiyavadi village in north Tamil Nadu.
The accused has been arrested for the crime which happened on Tuesday evening. Shocking CCTV camera visuals of the woman being dragged by the accused emerged on Wednesday numbing the viewers and triggering outrage.
Leader of Opposition and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said the crime reflected the poor state of law and order when even an super senior citizen was not safe.

The Arcot Town Police said the accused was a school dropout and was working as an electrician. He was allegedly intoxicated when he committed the crime on the woman who has great grand children. The victim lived in house in a farm where her family owned a brick kiln.
She was alone at home when the accused entered her house and allegedly sexually assaulted. The woman was dragged when she lost her balance and fell, sustaining injuries, that turned fatal. The accused fled the scene but was caught thanks to the CCTV visuals.
