Chennai: Sun TV Network Ltd. responded on Friday to media reports that DMK Member of Parliament and former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran had issued a legal notice against his elder brother, Kalanithi Maran, the chairman of the company, the latter's wife and others.
The network categorically denied the allegations, labeling them as “incorrect, misleading, speculative, defamatory, and unsupported by facts or law.”
In a stock exchange filing, Sun TV clarified the controversy surrounding the Maran family dates back 22 years when the company was still a closely held private limited entity. The statement aimed to address the media's portrayal of a family dispute and its alleged impact on the company’s operations.
“This is in reference to the news articles appearing in various media regarding certain matters between the Promoter of Sun TV Network Limited and his family member. The alleged matter dates back to 22 years when the Company was a closely held private limited Company,” Sun TV said.

The company further stressed all actions taken at the time had been in compliance with legal obligations and had been thoroughly vetted by the necessary intermediaries before the public listing of the company.
“The matters alleged in the articles do not have any bearing on the business of the Company or its day-to-day functioning. Being a family matter of the Promoter, these issues are purely personal in nature,” the statement concluded.
At the time of filing this report, Dayanidhi Maran nor his legal representatives issued any statement on the matter.
