New Delhi: A gang of thieves caused frequent disruptions between the city's Majlis Park and Azadpur metro stations on February 3, by stealing copper cables.
The Delhi police arrested the three men, identified as Govind Kumar, 24, Aas Mohammad, 29, and Sushil Kumar, 29, for four thefts on the Pink Line. Led by Govind, also known as 'Spiderman' for his acrobatic skills, the gang used construction debris as makeshift ladders to cut through barbed wire and access the electrical infrastructure.
As per a report by The Times of India, the cops reported two similar incidents later, establishing a pattern of theft.
In continuation of the report, the police seized 85 meters of stolen copper cables and a Bolero pickup truck from the thieves. A specialised team, analysing the CCTV footage identified the burglars' modus operandi and initially arrested Govind and Sushil.
Speaking about the incident, Hareshwar V Swami, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Metro told The Indian Express, "The thieves exploited heaps of debris to access the Metro tracks, cutting through barbed wire to steal valuable copper cables. Further investigation revealed that the accused used a four-wheeler to transport the stolen cables."
After further interrogation, Aas Mohammad was arrested from his Okhla residence, from whom another 10 meters of cable was recovered.
