Lucknow: India’s oldest shooter, 89-year-old Dadi Chandro Tomar, also succumbed to the deadly second strain of coronavirus on Friday in Meerut Medical College.

Famous as ‘Shooter Dadi’, she tested positive on Monday and was admitted at a private Hospital in Baghpat on Monday. She was shifted to Meerut Medical College on Thursday after she developed breathing trouble.

She had informed her millions of fans through a tweet on Monday: “Dadi Chandro Tomar tested positive for corona and has been admitted in a hospital after developing breathing problems.”

A resident of Baghpat’s Jauhari village in Binauli, she was one of the world’s oldest shooters who had won many medals, awards and accolades. Her sister in law Prakashi Tomar is also one of the oldest surviving shooters.

She shot into worldwide fame after the release of Tushar Hiranandani directed and Tapasee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar starrer 'Saand Ki Aankh', based on a real life story of the two oldest shooters.

Impressed by their women empowerment efforts in training young girls in shooting, she was invited by Bollywood Actor Aamir Khan in his real life show ‘Satyamev Jayate’. She was also a recipient of the 'Stri Shkati Samman' by the President.

Initially, her shooting adventures were restricted by male-dominated society and her family elders but her sons, daughter-in-laws and grand children encouraged her. She used to practice in a nearby range and then had opened her own centre to give training to young girls.
