Meerut: The mysterious death of 25-year-old labourer Amit, alias Mickey, in Meerut's Akbarpur Sadat village took a dramatic turn, with the postmortem report ruling out snake bite as the primary cause of death.
Contrary to claims by the deceased's family members earlier, the report states that Amit died of suffocation, raising suspicions of foul play.

Amit was found dead in his home two days ago, with a huge snake reportedly sitting beneath his body. The victim's family claimed that he had been bitten ten times and the snake had bizarrely remained under the bed all night without moving. They further added that after finding the bite marks on his body, they rushed him to a local doctor in Bulandshahr district, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
Injury Marks Hint at Suspicion of Murder
Speaking about the case, SP Rural Rakesh Kumar Mishra told News18, "In the post-mortem, apart from snake bite marks on the body, some injury marks were also found. The viscera has been preserved. The post-mortem report says that the death was due to suffocation. Further investigation is underway."
While the cause of death pointed to asphyxiation, police are expanding their investigation further to ascertain the exact motive of the crime.
As per the report, villagers had earlier voiced doubts about the snake bite story, which now appears to have been a cover-up.
What Did Police Investigation Reveal?
During the investigation, a major breakthrough came when Amit's wife, Ravita, admitted to orchestrating his murder with the help of her lover, Amardeep, who was also a close friend of Amit. According to a report by The Times of India, SP Rural Rakesh Kumar Mishra revealed that Ravita was involved in an extramarital affair with Amardeep, which Amit eventually discovered. This revelation caused frequent arguments between the couple.
To eliminate her husband and avoid suspicion, Ravita plotted the murder carefully. She purchased a snake for Rs 1,000, strangled Amit to death, and then placed the snake beneath his body to stage the scene as a snake bite incident.
Despite these accounts, the postmortem reports contradicted the claims of a snake bite. The Police also called in Amit's family for questioning after the report was released.
Earlier in March, the horrific killing of a 29-year-old Merchant Navy officer called Saurabh Rajput shook Meerut. The deceased's body parts were dismembered and hidden in a blue drum by his wife and her lover to cover up the cold-blooded murder.
