Kolkata: After the judgement of RG Kar rape and murder incident at Sealdah court, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had expressed her disappointment over the judgement.

“We have always demanded capital punishment for the culprit. Had our state administration probed the incident then we would have asked for capital punishment,” said Mamata.

Later taking to X, the West Bengal Chief Minister wrote, “In the R.G. Kar junior doctor's rape and murder case, I am really shocked to see that the judgement of the Court today finds that it is not a Rarest of Rare case! I am convinced that it is indeed a rarest of rare case which demands capital punishment. How could the judgement come to the conclusion that it is not a rarest of rare case?! We want and insist upon the death penalty in this most sinister and sensitive case. Recently, in the last 3/4 months, we have been able to ensure capital/ maximum punishment for convicts in such crimes. Then, why, in this case, has capital punishment not been awarded? I strongly feel that it is a heinous crime that warrants capital punishment. We will plead for capital punishment of the convict at the High Court now.”

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said that the parents of the victim have planned to move the higher court and also that the saffron camp will lend all support to the victim’s parents.

CPI (M) leader Minakshi Mukherjee said, “All the protests demanding justice have died down today. Lifetime imprisonment is not the answer to the heinous crime that was committed at RG Kar on August 9.”

However, the victim’s father questioned why is Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee keen to give capital punishment to guilty Sanjoy Roy?

“Wherever judgement is given to Sanjoy let that be as of now. Probe should be initiated about others who are involved in the crime. We still believe that alone Sanjoy cannot commit the crime. I am confused as to why is the Chief Minister so keen for capital punishment for Sanjoy?” questioned the victim’s father.

Victim’s mother once again mentioned that she feels something is ‘fishy’ about the hurried cremation of her daughter’s body.

A protesting doctor Agnibin Kundu also supporting the victim's parents mentioned that the doctors are with the victim’s parents.
