Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s "Narender, surrender" jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi has drawn a sharp reaction from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
On Wednesday, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi hit back at Rahul Gandhi, labelling the Congress MP a "self-proclaimed, self-styled supreme leader" and accusing him of disparaging the Indian armed forces and the success of Operation Sindoor.
"By making extremely cheap, low-level statements, the self-proclaimed, self-styled supreme leader—the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi—is demonstrating to the world that even after assuming the role of LoP, he lacks the seriousness and maturity the position demands," said Trivedi.
"The way Rahul Gandhi compared the valour of our armed forces and the military’s briefing on Operation Sindoor’s success to 'surrender' reveals just how sick and dangerous his mindset has become," he added.
During a party convention at Ravindra Bhawan in Bhopal yesterday, Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at PM Modi, claiming he had "surrendered" after a call from then-US President Donald Trump.
"A call came from Trump, and Narendraji immediately surrendered... Narendraji responded to Trump’s 'Narender, surrender' with a 'Yes, sir'," Gandhi said.
The Congress party has been running a social media campaign against the BJP and PM Modi, pushing the narrative that Modi capitulated to Trump.
Trump has repeatedly claimed credit for brokering the India-Pakistan ceasefire, even suggesting he averted a potential nuclear conflict by threatening both nations with trade sanctions.
