New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced the launch of Mission Sudarshan Chakra to develop an advanced defence system. The ‘Sudarshan Chakra’  is set to become operational by 2035.

The state-of-the-art technological shield will protect the country from potential threats to the country's national security. ""India aims to develop its own Iron Dome-like defence system, named Mission Sudarshan Chakra, designed to safeguard critical sites, including civilian areas," PM Modi said. Notably, the Sudarshan Chakra was Lord Krishna’s weapon that represented righteousness, time, and cosmic power.

The Sudarshan Chakra will be a major boost for the ‘Aatamanirbhar Bharat’ initiative and will transform the country’s air defence system by reducing its dependence on other countries. The Prime Minister said that in the next ten years, by 2035, India will expand, strengthen, and modernise the national security shield.

“We have chosen the path of Lord Krishna’s Sudarshan Chakra. For the security of the country and its citizens, we will continue to upgrade our capabilities. Speaking from the Red Fort, I assure you that in the next 10 years, whether it is a place of strategic importance, a civilian area, or our centres of faith, we will build a ‘Rashtriya Suraksha Kavach’ to withstand any attack,” PM Modi said during his Independence Day speech.

The entire modern weapons system will be researched, developed, and manufactured in India. "This powerful system will not only counter terrorist attacks but also strike back at the terrorists," he said.

PM Modi's Complete I-Day Address:

For the unversed, India’s air defence system played a key role during Operation Sindoor. India thwarted Pakistan’s aerial attacks.

“We have shown the world our capabilities and proved that India is ready to face any kind of warfare. We demonstrated this in Operation Sindoor. Pakistan attacked our military bases, civilian areas, and our temples, but our air defence systems, our Sudarshan Chakra, foiled all of their attacks,” PM Modi said.
