Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for Vocal for Local, Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar has banned the procurement of foreign goods in the departments under his control.
"From now on, only goods made in India will be purchased in the departments of School Education, Panchayati Raj, and Sanskrit Education. These departments will not procure goods manufactured abroad," said the minister in a video shared on his social media handle.
Dilawar, known for his controversial statements and decisions such as banning the use of mobile phones by teachers during school hours holds the portfolios of Education, Panchayati Raj, and Sanskrit Education.
He said that in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India campaign, this initiative has been implemented across the departments under his control. However, goods manufactured exclusively abroad may still be procured, but only with his prior approval.
The minister also called for a boycott of Chinese rakhis and appealed to citizens to use indigenous products during the festival of Rakshabandhan.
“Women should understand their duty towards the country and buy indigenous products. This holy festival will not only bring happiness to your home but will also help make thousands of Indian families self-reliant,” he said.
