Rajasthan: Panic gripped passengers aboard the Mumbai-Delhi Garib Rath Express (12216) early Saturday morning after a fire broke out in the train's engine near Sendra Railway Station, close to Beawar, around 3:00 am. The incident disrupted services on the busy Ajmer–Beawar rail route and caused major delays.
Details On The Fire Incident
The train, which runs between Bandra Terminus in Mumbai and Sarai Rohilla Junction in Delhi, was en route to Ajmer when smoke began billowing from the engine compartment. Over 500 passengers were on board at the time. Fortunately, the train was moving at a relatively low speed while passing through Sendra, allowing the loco pilot to respond quickly.
Alert passengers were the first to notice the smoke and immediately informed the train crew. In a swift response, the loco pilot brought the train to a halt, and the emergency evacuation procedure was initiated. All passengers were safely deboarded and no injuries were reported.

Visuals of the incident have surfaced on the internet showing the half-burnt engine of the express train. Firefighters and railway officials can be seen engaged in cooling operations at the site.
'Fire Restricted To The Engine,' Confirms Railway
According to a Dainik Bhaskar report, a railway spokesperson confirmed that the fire was restricted to the engine and did not spread to the passenger coaches. Emergency teams from Ajmer, including engineers and railway security personnel, rushed to the site to assess the damage and manage the situation.
Operations on the Ajmer–Beawar line were suspended for over six hours following the incident. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by a technical fault or an electrical short circuit in the engine. Efforts are currently underway to remove the damaged engine and restore normal train services. Officials estimate it may take several more hours before the line becomes fully operational again.
Alternate Transportation Arranged For Passengers
The Garib Rath Express had departed from Abu Road at approximately 11:30 pm and was scheduled to arrive in Ajmer by 3:45 am. Despite the disruption, railway authorities arranged alternate transportation to ensure that all stranded passengers could reach their destinations safely and without further delay.
