Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday said that his wife has tested positive for Covid-19. The CM said in a tweet that his wife Sunita is Covid positive and as per protocol, she is isolating and taking treatment.
Gehlot said he too has isolated himself as a precautionary measure and will continue to take the daily Covid-19 review meetings with health department officials.
Meanwhile, the state continues to reel under shortage of medical oxygen, ICU beds and medicines. The health infrastructure in all major cities such as Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Bikaner has crumbled. In Jaipur, all hospitals are full and have stopped admitting patients.
The shortage of oxygen led to deaths of at least 10 patients in Jaipur, Kota and Bikaner. In Jaipur, four Covid patients died on Tuesday in a private hospital due to lack of oxygen. Six others died in Kota and Bikaner.
On Wednesday, the state recorded 16,613 positive cases and 120 deaths. The cumulative positive cases have gone up to 5,63,577 while the total deaths are 3926. The active cases are 1,63,372.
The state has recorded over 1.07 cases in the last one week. As per the health department figures, 599 deaths have occurred.
The shortage has hit not only the health infrastructure but also funerals. In Jaipur, there is such a rush of dead bodies that ambulances taking bodies to crematoriums have to wait in queue.
