A woman was shot dead on Sunday evening for allegedly consuming liquor on the premises of a gurdwara in Patiala, Senior Superintendent of Police, Varun Sharma, said on Monday.
The deceased identified as Parminder Kaur, 32, was allegedly seen consuming liquor near the 'sarovar' (holy water tank) of Dukhniwarn Sahib gurdwara, police said.
A resident of Urban Estate Phase I, Parminder was shot at multiple times by Nirmaljit Singh Saini, a regular at the gurdwara.

"Parminder Kaur was having liquor near the sarovar of Gurdwara Dukhniwarn Sahib. The sangat noticed this and took her to the manager's office. Nirmaljeet Singh, present there shot her in a fit of anger," Sharma said.
"Saini fired five rounds at the woman with his 32-bore licensed revolver," an official statement said. Kaur was taken to a hospital but was declared dead on admission by the doctors, police said.
A bystander injured in the injured in the incident was hospitalized but reported to be stable, sources said. Police have arrested the shooter who is a property dealer and has no criminal background, officials said.
