Punjab On High Alert, Boosts Security After Pahalgam Terror Attack

According to information, the state has increased the security arrangements around the religious places, crowded places as well as around the residences of individuals at high risk, besides the educational institutions which have students from Jammu and Kashmir.

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has sounded high alert, heightening security at all the prominent places in the state and increasing patrolling around the residences of individuals at high risk in the wake of the gruesome terror attack at Pahalgam on Tuesday.

According to information, the state has increased the security arrangements around the religious places, crowded places as well as around the residences of individuals at high risk, besides the educational institutions which have students from Jammu and Kashmir. Decisions in this regard were taken by chief minister Bhagwant Mann who also held a meeting with chief secretary, home secretary, vigilance chief and the top police officers.

Punjab has a border of over 530 km with Pakistan where smuggling of drugs, weapons and currency has also been often reported involving Pakistan-based smugglers who have also joined hands with the gangsters aiming at disturbing the peace, law and order situation.

SECURITY UP AT J&K-PUNJAB BORDER

Meanwhile, security arrangements involving Army, Border Security Force (BSF), Punjab police, explosive-sniffing dog squads and Central agencies, have also been beefed up in and around Pathankot district of Punjab - which is located near the Pakistan border - and which also borders Jammu and Kashmir after the Pahalgam terror attack.

All the vehicles travelling on the Pathankot-J&K national highway are being checked at multiple points and the entire operation is being monitored from command-and-control centre, Pathankot, with real-time surveillance and response.
