Chandigarh: Balkaur Singh, father of slain renowned Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala - who was shot dead in Punjab Mansa district on May 29, 2022 - has announced to contest 2027 assembly elections.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for its lack of action against gangsters, Singh said he would contest the election to seek justice for his son by staying in the system only. Interacting with newspersons on Tuesday, he said his focus would be on seeking justice and restoring public safety.

Singh also raised serious concern over the status of notorious gangster Goldy Brar, said to be the mastermind behind Moosewala’s killing, and rued that the gangster had yet not been arrested despite promises by the chief minister Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government.

It may be recalled that Moosewala had also contested the 2022 assembly election from Mansa seat on Congress ticket but had faced drubbing due to the AAP wave.

THIRD DEATH ANNIVERSARY

Moosewala was shot dead by a group of assailants in Jawarhke village in Mansa district while he was driving his Thar on May 29, 2022, with his friends Gurwinder and Gurpreet, who were injured in firing. Moosewala’s security had been pruned by the government a day before.

On Thursday, a ``sehaj path’’ was organised at his cremation spot in his ancestral Musa village by his father Singh and mother Charan Kaur on the occasion of his third death anniversary, which was attended by a large number of people and fans. In their messages on social media, they also expressed frustration over the delay in justice.

The special investigation team (SIT) probing into the shocking murder case of Moosewala, has filed five chargesheets against 32 individuals including gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, both in jail and Goldy Brar, who is said to be hiding in Canada.

According to police, Moosewala’s murder was part of a series of revenge killings between Bishnoi and Bambiha gangs. Moosewala was allegedly killed by Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gang to avenge murder of Bishnoi’s friend and Vicky Middukhera in 2021 in which Moosewala’s manager Shaganpreet was alleged to have been involved.
