Chandigarh: Punjab police is likely to lodge another case against senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia - who was arrested by Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Wednesday in a case of alleged laundering of over Rs 540 crore `drug money’ - for allegedly threatening VB team and instigating his supporters to stop it from conducting searches at his house.
It may be recalled that the VB had arrested him from his Amritsar house and brought him to Mohali court which sent him to seven day VB remand. The VB counsel had said that the court was also informed that Majithia allegedly "threatened’’ the VB team when it raided his residence in Amritsar.
The VB held that even though they had substantial information about the documents related to the drug money trail, Majithia’s supporters stopped the VB team from conducting the searches and conspiring to destroy the evidence. There were also unconfirmed reports about scuffle between the VB team and Majithia’s supporters.
Majithia, who is brother-in-law of the SAD chief Sukhbir Badal, is already facing a drug case registered against him in 2021 and the fresh DA case stems from the ongoing probe by the special investigation team (SIT) into that drug case.
According to official information, the SIT probe and the VB have revealed "massive laundering of drug money facilitated by Majithia’’. According to prosecution, Majithia’s income of over Rs 540 crore remains undisclosed and he failed to give any details about the same so far.
