Chandigarh: Two days after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s social media post accusing BJP and RSS of "manuvadi thinking’’ and a subsequent meeting between the kin of the victim and Haryana chief minister Nayab Saini, the Hisar police has registered an FIR against unknown police officials in connection with the alleged killing of a Dalit youth.
According to media reports, the FIR was registered on July 17 night under various sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (prevention of atrocities) Act, 1989 and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
With this, the family members and supporters of the victim also ended their 11-day dharna against police and cremated the body of the deceased.
Rahul in his post on X had alleged that "when the power sits in the lap of manuvadi thinking, the lives of Dalits have no value. The murder of a Dalit youth Ganesh Valmiki in Hisar, Haryana and the brutality done to his family is not just a crime, it is the ugly face of the manuvadi system of BJP-RSS’’.
The family of Ganesh and Hisar police have different versions of the July 7 incident which took place in Hisar’s 12 Quarter Area when police was called by residents to stop the loud music being played late at night leading to a confrontation between police and Ganesh and his friends.

According to police Ganesh and his friends attacked the police officers with stones and sharp weapons, injuring a sub-inspector and another officer, when Ganesh and his friend Akash jumped from a rooftop in a bid to flee the spot resulting in Ganesh’s death and injuries to Akash. However, Ganesh’s family members and Dalit organisations accused the police personnel of pushing Ganesh and Akash off the roof.
