as teAmritsar (Punjab): A blast was reported in Punjab's Amritsar on Tuesday morning, May 27. One person, suspected to be a Khalistani terrorist, in the explosion that took place outside Decent Avenue on the Majitha Road Bypass in the city. He was initially injured in the blast, however, died during treatment.
Police reached the spot after receiving information. As per Deputy Inspector General of Police (Border Range) Satinder Singh, the deceased was a member of a terrorist organisation.
"The person who was injured has died. He is a member of a terrorist organisation and he had come to retrieve the explosive consignment. We have received a lot of clues," Singh told ANI.
"Further investigation is underway...Babbar Khalsa and ISI is active in Punjab and most likely, he is a member of Babbar Khalsa," the DIG added.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the explosion. Panic gripped the area after the incident.

It is not the first such incident in Amritsar. In March this year, unidentified assailants an explosive object, suspected to be a grenade, at a Hindu temple in Amritsar. The incident took place in the Khandawala area of the city. The blast was so powerful that it also affected the nearby buildings, breaking their windows. Two attackers arrived on a motorcycle and threw the explosive object inside the temple. The bike in which the assailants came had a flag. Meanwhile, one of the suspects involved in the temple blast was killed in the police encounter two days later.
