New Delhi: US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are reportedly likely to meet in Kuala Lumpur during the 47th ASEAN Summit. The two leaders may hold talks on the sidelines of the Summit, which is scheduled to take place later this month.
This will be their first meeting since the Trump administration imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods. Prime Minister Modi and President Trump last met in February during PM Modi's visit to the United States.
PM Modi is scheduled to visit Malaysia for the ASEAN Summit on October 26–27. Malaysia has also extended an invitation to President Trump to attend the summit. The POTUS is yet to confirm his participation in the summit.
India-US ties have strained since the impostion of the 50 per cent tariffs on Indian goods. The rift has widened further with Trump targeting India over its energy ties with Russia, particularly its imports of Russian crude.
