New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited public suggestions for this year’s Independence Day address, asking fellow Indians to share themes and ideas through the Open Forums on MyGov and the NaMo App.

The outreach precedes a Defence Ministry initiative, also in partnership with MyGov, that will engage citizens nationwide in creative contests to mark the 2025 celebrations.

Public Call for Speech Theme Suggestions

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, August 1, Modi wrote, “As we approach this year’s Independence Day, I look forward to hearing from my fellow Indians! What themes or ideas would you like to see reflected in this year’s Independence Day speech? Share your thoughts on the Open Forums on MyGov and the NaMo App.”

He encouraged also participants to contribute ideas that would resonate across generations, underlining a desire for a speech that reflects contemporary aspirations.

Defence Ministry Launches Creative Campaign

Complementing the Prime Minister’s appeal, the Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with MyGov, announced the Independence Day Celebrations – 2025 campaign. Citizens are being invited to take part in a series of nationwide contests designed to foster patriotic pride and national unity, particularly among the youth.

Participants can submit artwork, essays, quizzes and design entries that honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters and celebrate India’s journey of courage and resilience.

The Prime Minister’s public invitation follows his 100-minute address in the Lok Sabha on “India’s strong, successful and decisive Operation Sindoor”, where he asserted that the recent cross-border strike had foiled an attempt to instigate riots and showcased the capabilities of India’s armed forces.

“I stand here to make a case for India, and to show a mirror to those who do not understand this. We have complete trust in the capabilities of our armed forces and they were given a free hand to respond. The armed forces taught them such a lesson that the masters of terrorism are still losing their sleep over it," he said.

Citizens can access the Open Forums on MyGov and download the NaMo App to submit their ideas and contest entries ahead of the August 15 celebrations.
