Patna Paras Hospital Firing: Criminal Undergoing Treatment Killed; CCTV Footage Shows Gunmen Fleeing After Spraying Bullets

Patna: Unidentified assailants shot dead a murder convict, Chandan Mishra, who was admitted to a hospital in Patna for treatment on Thursday. The five gunmen involved in the firing incident were captured on CCTV installed in the hospital. The visuals also surfaced online.

In the video, the gunmen could be seen entering Mishra’s room with guns in their hands. After shooting Mishra, the accused fled from the spot. The victim is a resident of the Buxar district and is an undertrial prisoner.

CCTV Footage Of The Assailants Fleeing After Shooting:

The victim was on parole on the grounds of required medical attention and was admitted to Paras Hospital for treatment, when unidentified assailants barged into the hospital and shot him, Patna SSP Kartikay Sharma said, as reported by ANI.

Mishra was a known criminal with dozens of murder cases registered against him. The police suspected the involvement of a rival gang in the firing incident.

"A criminal named Chandan Mishra, resident of Buxar district, against whom dozens of cases of murder are registered. He was transferred from Buxar to Bhagalpur jail. Chandan was on parole and admitted to Paras Hospital for treatment. The rival gang shot him. He is undergoing treatment, and with the help of the Buxar police, we are identifying the members of the rival gang, Chandan Sheru gang," SSP Kartikay Sharma said, as reported by the news agency.

The police are identifying the shooters. A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter.

Opposition Targets Nitish Kumar Government:

The Opposition targeted the ruling JDU-BJP government in the state over the incident. RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday questioned the Bihar government asking if "anyone was safe anywhere" in the state.

“Government criminals stormed into the ICU and shot a patient admitted to the hospital. Is anyone safe anywhere in Bihar? Has this happened before 2005?" Yadav said in his X post.

Several incidents of crime surfaced in Bihar over the past few weeks. An Thursday morning, a blood-soaked body of Rakesh Singh's 20-year-old son Shivam alias Bunty was found lying outside his house in Hathiyakandh village under Shahpur police station area.

Earlier this month, renowned businessman and BJP leader Gopal Khemka was also shot dead outside his residence in Patna.
