Srinagar: At least 26 tourists were killed in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on Tuesday. An image of a terrorist with AK-47 was widely shared on social media as "one of the suspected terrorists" who carried out the ghastly attack.
However, the image is a screengrab from a training video at an unknown terrorist camp. The attack was reportedly carried out by five to six terrorists.
Here Is The Video:
According to eyewitnesses, terrorists opened fire at civilians at a famed meadow Baisaran. The attack was the deadliest in Kashmir since the Pulwama strike in 2019.
First Image of One of The Terrorists:
Baisaran is about 6 kilometres from Pahalgam. It is an expansive meadow dubbed ‘mini Switzerland’ ringed by dense pine forests and mountains.
As per witnesses, the terrorists appeared in the meadow around 2:30 pm. Videos of the moment when the attack took place are going viral on social media.
Moments Of The Attack:
With Baisaran accessible only by foot or horses, choppers were deployed to evacuate the injured. The families of those killed and injured were taken to the government-owned Pahalgam Club under tight security.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah immediately landed in Srinagar to personally oversee the response and security measures in the region.
Amit Shah Reaches Jammu and Kashmir:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his Saudi Arabia visit and returned to New Delhi on Wednesday morning.
PM Modi condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly assault on innocent civilians.” He directed the Home Minister to ensure swift and decisive action to address the incident. Modi further emphasized the need for justice and the restoration of public safety in the region.
Reports claimed that most of the terrorist who carried out the attack were from Pakistan.
Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) offshoot The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed the responsibly for the attack.
