A disturbing incident has come to light from Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, where a doctor was caught on camera mercilessly beating his 10-year-old adopted daughter with a stick. The harrowing video, recorded by a neighbour on 14 June, shows the terrified child screaming in pain as she tries to hide in a corner of the room, while the doctor continues his brutal assault without pause.

The accused doctor, reportedly a resident of Sector-15 in Chandigarh, was reportedly visiting relatives in Shimla with his wife and the child at the time of the incident. The couple had adopted the girl when she was just three years old, but the video reveals no trace of compassion or humanity—only the child’s screams and the indifference of the adults present. A woman, believed to be the girl’s mother, is seen in the footage passively watching the assault, while another person enters the room in an attempt to intervene but fails to stop the enraged doctor.

The neighbour who witnessed the horrific scene quickly recorded the incident and reported it to child welfare authorities. As the video went viral, police in Shimla and Chandigarh swiftly took action. Shipra Bansal, Chairperson of Chandigarh Protection for Child Rights, described the case as extremely serious and demanded immediate intervention. The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has also launched an investigation, summoning the doctor and his wife for questioning.

Authorities have prioritised the girl’s safety, with child rights organisations stepping forward to ensure she receives all necessary support. Meanwhile, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh police are coordinating to gather further details, as public outrage grows over the appalling abuse. The case has reignited concerns over child protection laws and the urgent need for stricter enforcement to prevent such atrocities.
