New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Sunday, April 27, through his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, where he spoke with deep emotion about the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condemning the brutal act, Modi assured that justice would be delivered to the victims without fail.

“There is a deep agony in my heart. The April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam has left every citizen heartbroken. Every Indian feels deep sympathy for the families of the victims,” said PM Modi. Stressing that the nation’s spirit is undeterred, he stated, “Nyaay milega, nyaay milkar hi rahega” (Justice will be served, and it will certainly happen).

Modi stated that the country’s enemies are targeting India's development and progress. However, he pointed out that the global community has stood firmly with India, strongly condemning the brazen attack. "Global leaders have called me, written letters, sent messages. Everyone has strongly condemned this heinous terrorist attack... The entire world stands with the 1.4 billion Indians in our fight against terrorism," he added.

PM Modi Assures Harshest Punishment For Terrorists

Expressing the nation’s collective anger, PM Modi said that the blood of the nation is boiling after the cowardly attack, and the government is determined to ensure that the perpetrators receive the harshest possible punishment. "Once again, I assure the victims' families that they will get justice. The conspirators and perpetrators of this attack will face the harshest response," he said. He reiterated his government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism and maintaining national security.

The terror attack occurred on April 22 in Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, where militants ambushed tourists, killing 26 individuals, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, and injuring over 20 others. The Resistance Front (TRF), believed to be a proxy of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba group, initially claimed responsibility but later withdrew their statement.

Diplomatic War Between Both Countries

The incident has had far-reaching implications beyond the immediate tragedy. The Indian government has accused Pakistan-based groups of orchestrating the attack, resulting in heightened diplomatic tensions between the two countries. In a strong response, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, expelled Pakistani diplomats and shut down major border crossings. Pakistan has denied any involvement and responded by closing its airspace to Indian flights.

Meanwhile, the government has announced financial assistance for the victims’ families. Each deceased victim’s family will receive Rs 10 lakh and those seriously injured will be granted Rs 2 lakh. Additionally, security measures in Jammu and Kashmir have been intensified, with plans underway to deploy permanent Army and paramilitary forces in sensitive areas to prevent further attacks.
