New Delhi: There is no pre or post-condition to the agreement for a complete military ceasefire between India and Pakistan, which was reached on Saturday and the Indus Waters Treaty will remain in abeyance, news agency ANI reported quoting MEA sources.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump on Saturday informed that India and Pakistan have agreed to a "full and immediate ceasefire" after talks mediated by America. Confirming the development, foreign secretary Vikram Misri said the Pakistani DGMO called his Indian counterpart and agreed to a ceasefire from 5 pm.
Trump said on Truth Social, "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
Foreign secretary Vikram Misri said addressing the media, "Pakistan's Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) called Indian DGMO at 15:35 hours earlier this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time."
He further said, "Today, instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this understanding," he said.
"The Directors General of Military Operations will talk again on the 12th of May at 1200 hours," he added.
Pakistan also issued a formal statement confirming the ceasefire between both the countries. Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said in a tweet that Pakistan has always strived for peace and security.
