New Delhi: The Indian Army on Saturday confirmed that no Director General of Military Operations (DGMO)-level talks are scheduled with Pakistan today, May 18, according to reports.

However, the ceasefire understanding that was reinforced during their last communication on May 12 will continue to remain in effect, with no expiration timeline set. An Army official told News18, “No DGMO talks are scheduled today. As far as a continuation of a break in hostilities, as decided in the DGMO interaction of May 12 is concerned, there is no expiry date to it.”

The assurance comes amid heightened border tensions following the deadly terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam earlier this month, which left 26 people dead. In retaliation, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeting multiple terror-linked locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Although a ceasefire agreement was reaffirmed on May 10, following a phone call initiated by Pakistan’s DGMO to his Indian counterpart Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, violations were reported shortly after. Pakistani forces allegedly opened fire across several stretches of the International Border and Line of Control (LoC), including sensitive zones in Srinagar, Punjab, and Rajasthan.

India responded strongly, warning of consequences for any future breaches.

Recent DGMO Dialogue Reaffirmed Commitment To De-escalation

The last official DGMO interaction between both nations took place on May 12 at 5:00 PM, during which officers discussed maintaining peace and avoiding provocative action along the borders.

“The focus was on ensuring that neither side initiates hostilities or resorts to aggression,” the Army said in a statement following that exchange.

Despite recent infractions, Indian officials maintain that the dialogue opened avenues to uphold a fragile calm, even in the face of persistent provocations.
