Badaun (Uttar Pradesh), June 29: A video has surfaced on social media in which a man is seen offering Namaz inside the premises of a Hindu Temple in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun. The video of the incident is doing rounds on social media and the video shows a man performing Namaz inside the Brahmadev Temple complex which is located in the Dataganj Police Station area. The incident came to light only after the video of the incident surfaced on social media.
The person who was caught offering Namaz inside the temple has been reportedly identified as Ali Mohammad. He is a resident of Daharpur Kalan village and he can be seen offering Namaz inside the temple premises. There are reports that the video is two to three months old and hit the internet on June 28. The video has sparked controversy and invited police action.
There are also reports that the local Hindu organisations have raised objections and demanded strict action against the person performing Namaz inside the temple. They claim that the video has violated the religious sanctity of the temple.
Circle Officer (CO) of Dataganj Police Station, Krishna Kumar Tiwari said, "In the Dataganj Police Station area, under the village of Papar, a case has been registered and the accused has been taken into custody regarding a viral video of a person offering namaz in a temple complex. A statement given by the Circle Officer of Dataganj."
Initial investigations revealed that the man seen in the video has been residing in the temple complex for the past 25 to 30 years. He has been responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness and caring for cattle (Gau Seva) and also responsible for performing daily temple duties.
Despite his background, the religious groups have expressed strong dissatisfaction and calling the act breach of religious norms.
An FIR has been registered against Ali Mohammad under appropriate sections in connection with the matter. The accused has been detained and further investigation is underway in connection with the matter.
