A horrific case of sexual assault on a five-year-old girl inside a temple has been reported in Agra's Jagdishpura police station area. The accused, initially arrested and released, was taken back into custody on 26th May after CCTV footage of the incident circulated online.
The assault occurred on 18th May while the child was playing near a temple adjacent to her home. The victim's grandmother stated that a neighbour, identified as Pavitra alias Pammi, lured the girl inside the temple premises where the assault took place.
"My five-year-old granddaughter was playing outside the temple that morning," the grandmother recounted. "Pavitra took her inside, removed her clothes, and assaulted her. When she screamed, he covered her mouth."
Hearing the child's cries, the grandmother rushed to the temple. "As soon as he saw me, he pushed me aside and fled. When I saw my granddaughter's condition, it was horrific. I immediately raised the alarm," she said.
According to Dainik Bhaskar report, local residents responded swiftly, chasing down and apprehending the accused before handing him over to police along with the victim.
Authorities registered a case against Pavitra, but family members allege he was released the same night, with police allegedly treating it as a minor offence. A medical examination later confirmed the sexual assault.
The case gained renewed attention when CCTV footage surfaced on 26th May, leading to the accused's re-arrest.
ACP Mayank Tiwari stated, "The family initially reported only molestation. The accused has mental health concerns. After the CCTV footage emerged, he was arrested."
The victim's family disputes this account, asserting, "The accused lives nearby and works at a medical store. He is mentally sound. We clearly informed police about the assault on our child."
With video evidence now secured, the accused remains in custody as investigations continue.
