New Delhi: As violence continues to spiral in West Bengal over the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai publicly criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, questioning her silence on the reported targeting of Hindus in Murshidabad district.

Sharing a video of displaced residents crossing the river, Mohandas Pai called out the CM Banerjee's handling of the situation. “This is very wrong. CM @MamataOfficial is CM of all Bengal, not one community. Should protect life, liberty and property of all citizens,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

'400 Hindus Flee Murshidabad, Take Shelter in Malda'

According to a report by News18, officials confirmed that several hundred people from Murshidabad’s Dhulian area fled across the Bhagirathi River to neighbouring Malda district, where they are now taking shelter in schools and public buildings.

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari claimed that over 400 Hindus were forced to flee due to attacks by “religiously driven bigots.” He also accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of encouraging radical elements through appeasement politics.

"Religious persecution in Bengal is real," Adhikari said in a statement, alleging that women and girls were molested, and that many were dragged out of their homes and beaten. Several reports also hinted at incidents of arson, hurling of crude bombs, and attacks on police vehicles.

The situation in Murshidabad still remains tense. On Sunday, April 13, curfews were in effect, with security forces patrolling violence-hit areas like Dhulian, Shamsherganj, and Suti. Central forces were also deployed in the area after a Calcutta High Court ruling. Meanwhile, TMC has refuted BJP’s allegations, accusing them of using religion to fuel unrest.
