Guwahati: In a dramatic turn of events following a mid-air altercation that went viral, the passenger who was slapped onboard an IndiGo flight has been found unwell but safe at Barpeta railway station in Assam.

The man, identified as Hussan Ahmed Majumdar from Assam’s Cachar district, had gone missing shortly after the incident, leading to a frantic search by his family and authorities.

Panic Attack, Assault and His Sudden Disappearance

The unsettling sequence began aboard IndiGo flight 6E138 (Mumbai to Kolkata), where Hussan, reportedly in distress, suffered a panic attack and requested to deboard. As the cabin crew was assisting him, another passenger, Hafijul Rahaman, abruptly slapped him in full view of others. The incident, caught on video, was circulated widely online.

While Rahaman was detained by security personnel upon landing in Kolkata and handed over to police, Hussan’s whereabouts became a mystery. According to NDTV, his family, unaware of the mid-air incident, had reached Silchar airport to receive him, only to find no trace of him.

His father, Abdul Mannan Majumdar, told the publication that his son’s phone was switched off, adding to their growing concern. A missing complaint was promptly filed.

Found at Railway Station

The search finally ended when Hussan was located at Barpeta railway station in Assam. He appeared unwell and disoriented. Authorities have confirmed that he is being escorted back home safely. Details about how he travelled there remain unclear, but family members have expressed immense relief at his recovery.

IndiGo, in its official statement, said, “In line with our commitment to discourage such unruly behaviour onboard flights, the individual (assaulter) has been suspended from flying on any IndiGo flights, in accordance with regulatory provisions.”

The airline added, “At IndiGo, the safety and well-being of our customers and crew remain our foremost priority.”
