Kolkata: The 24-year-old survivor in the horrific gangrape case which took place in South Kolkata's Law College, has revealed some harrowing details of the ordeal tot he police.
In her latest statement, the law student recounted how the assault began after she suffered a panic attack and was handed an inhaler, only for the accused to continue the rape moments later.
According to her complaint, the main accused, identified as Monojit Mishra, a former student and TMCP member, allegedly forced himself on her after she rejected his sexual advances and proposal for marriage. Just before the incident, the survivor said she began gasping for breath due to a panic attack. Seeing her in distress, Mishra allegedly instructed one of the other accused to bring her an inhaler.
Once her breathing had stabilised, she said the men dragged her to a guard room on campus and began the assault. The survivor tried to resist but was quickly overpowered.
Accused Blackmailed Victim With Video
In an even more disturbing revelation, the survivor revealed that the accused then told her they had secretly recorded a previous attempt to assault her. They reportedly used this video to threaten her, saying that they would leak it on social media if she didn’t comply.
Terrified by the threat of public shaming, the survivor said she felt trapped and helpless as the assault continued.
According to the survivor's statement, co-accused Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukhopadhyay dragged her to the union room forcibly. She added that she even touched Mishra's feet and begged him to release her. However, he told his accomplices to take her to the guard's room and wait outside.
"When I fought back, he blackmailed me, threatened me which he was doing from before. He threatens me that he will kill my boyfriend and he will arrest my parents," she wrote, as quoted by NDTV.
"I still fought back and then he shown me two videos of mine being naked when he raped me. He threatened me to show everyone this videos if I don't cooperate and if I don't come whenever he calls me. I was fighting for life. He also tried to hit me with a hockey stick. I just let myself (be) like a dead body," she added.
The police investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
The incident comes just months after the horrific RG Kar rape case that shook the nation.
