Hours after the announcement of a cessation of cross-border firings and military actions by Pakistan and India, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam attack, 'Operation Sindoor', and the ceasefire announcement involving the US.

In the letter to PM Modi, accessed by news agency PTI, Rahul Gandhi reiterated the "Opposition’s request to convene a special session of Parliament immediately."

"It is crucial for the people and their representatives to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and today’s ceasefire, first announced by US President Trump. This will also be an opportunity to demonstrate our collective resolve to meet the challenges ahead," the Congress leader stated in the letter.

Echoing a similar sentiment, Rajya Sabha LoP Kharge said, "In view of the latest developments, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha has already written to you, reiterating the unanimous request of all Opposition parties for a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and the ceasefire announcements—first from Washington DC and later by the Governments of India and Pakistan."

Supporting Rahul Gandhi’s request, he added, "As Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, I am writing in support of this appeal. I trust you will agree.

Meanwhile, PM Modi chaired a high-stakes security meeting at his residence with India’s top security leadership, including the Defence and External Affairs Ministers, the National Security Advisor (NSA), the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), and the chiefs of all three armed services.
