Srinagar: In the wake of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 lives, security agencies have reportedly intensified measures across Jammu and Kashmir's high-security prisons.

According to reports, intelligence inputs have raised concerns about potential terror strikes targeting facilities like Srinagar Central Jail and Kot Balwal Jail in Jammu, both housing high-profile terrorists and sleeper cell operatives.

Security Measures Enhanced in High-Risk Prisons

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), responsible for prison security since October 2023, has conducted a comprehensive review of the security apparatus in these jails.

On Sunday, May 4, the CISF Director General convened with senior security officials in Srinagar to assess and bolster defenses. The focus is on preventing any attempts by incarcerated militants to coordinate with external terror networks, especially given their history of providing logistical support and shelter to active terrorists.

Ongoing Manhunt for Pahalgam Attackers

Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) continues its probe into the Pahalgam massacre. According to India Today sources, the terrorists involved are still at large, possibly hiding in the dense forests of south Kashmir. These militants are believed to be self-reliant, carrying essential supplies to sustain prolonged periods without external aid.

The attackers, affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), executed a coordinated assault in Baisaran Valley, targeting tourists based on their religion. The incident has not only escalated tensions between India and Pakistan but also led to a significant crackdown in the region, with over 2,000 individuals detained under anti-terrorism laws.
