Jammu & Kashmir: Three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Shukroo forest area of Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Tuesday, May 13. However, the identities of the terrorists is yet to be ascertained.
A senior police official told ANI that a large-scale cordon and search operation was initiated in the Kellar forest following specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists. As the joint police and army team began the combing operation, the hidden terrorists opened fire on them, leading to a gunfight.
As per a report by NDTV, the encounter first began in Kulgam and later escalated to Shopian. This is reportedly the first encounter in Jammu and Kashmir in the gap of 11 days.
Taking to X, the Indian Army wrote, "On 13 May 2025, based on specific intelligence of a #RashtriyasRifles Unit, about presence of terrorists in general area Shoekal Keller, #Shopian, #IndianArmy launched a search and destroy Operation. During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire and fierce firefight ensued, which resulted in elimination of three hardcore terrorists," adding that the operation is still in progress.

This comes shortly after security agencies in Shopian, put up 'Terror Free Kashmir' posters, featuring Pakistani terrorists Adil Hussain Thoker, Ali Bhai and Hashim Musa, believed to be responsible for deadly the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
In response to the terror attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, a large-scale counter-terror operation aimed at flushing out nine terrorist camps from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
