ISI-Linked Espionage Network Busted: Punjab Police Arrests Man From Tarn Taran On Charges Of Spying For Pakistan

Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested a man from Tarn Taran on charges of allegedly spying for Pakistan. The arrested man has been identified as Gagandeep Singh. He allegedly shared details about the movement of the Indian Army during Operation Sindoor with Pakistan's ISI.

Tarn Taran: In a major breakthrough for intelligence agencies, Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested a man from Tarn Taran on charges of allegedly spying for Pakistan. The arrested man has been identified as Gagandeep Singh. He allegedly sensitive information, including details about the movement of the Indian Army, during India's Operation Sindoor with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

As per the Punjab Police, the arrested man was also in touch with Pakistan's prominent Khalistani leader, Gopal Singh Chawla.

"Acting swiftly on information received from Counter-Intelligence-Punjab, @TarnTaranPolice , in a joint operation arrests Gagandeep Singh @ Gagan, a resident of Mohalla Rodupur, Gali Nazar Singh Wali, #TarnTaran," Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav posted on X.

"Arrested accused had been in contact with the #Pakistan #ISI and Gopal Singh Chawla, sharing sensitive information concerning army movements during #OperationSindhoor," he added.

"Investigations have revealed that he was engaged in sharing classified details, including troop deployments and strategic locations, posing a threat to national security." the DGP stated.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Singh had been in touch with Pakistan-based Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla for the past five years. As per the investigation, Chawla introduced Singh to the Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs). He received payments from PIOs via Indian channels, the Punjab DGP said.

The police recovered mobile phone containing intelligence that he shared with the PIOs. The DGP further revealed that Singh in his mobile had contacts of over 20 ISI agents. Thorough financial and technical investigations are underway to trace other linkages.

An FIR has been lodged under the Official Secrets Act at PS City, Tarn Taran. A detailed investigation has been launched.
