Guwahati: A man who was seen being slapped by a co-passenger in a viral video after experiencing a panic attack on an IndiGo flight has gone missing, his family in Assam has claimed. The man, identified as 32-year-old Hussain Ahmed Majumdar from Cachar district, was travelling from Mumbai to Silchar via Kolkata on IndiGo flight 6E-2387 on Friday.
Majumdar Was Slapped Mid-Air By Co-passenger
According to reports, Majumdar suffered a panic attack during the flight, prompting two cabin crew members to assist him off the aircraft after landing. A video shot by another passenger shows the man being escorted toward the exit when a co-passenger seated in the aisle suddenly slapped him.
Cabin crew were seen urging restraint and attempting to defuse the situation, while another passenger objected to the violent act. The passenger who assaulted Majumdar was later detained by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) upon landing in Kolkata.
Family Was Unaware Of Slapping Incident
However, Majumdar failed to reach his final destination in Silchar, raising concerns among his family. They said he has not contacted anyone and that his phone has remained switched off since the incident. His father, Abdul Mannan Majumdar, told the media that they initially went to receive him at Silchar airport, unaware of the mid-air assault. It was only later that they recognised him in the viral video, prompting them to try contacting him, unsuccessfully.
Complaint Filed With Assam Police
According to an NDTV report, the family has approached authorities seeking help in tracing him. They claim neither IndiGo nor airport officials have provided any updates about his whereabouts. A missing complaint has been lodged at Udharbond Police Station in Assam and CISF officials at the airport have also been informed.
IndiGo Issues Statement On Incident
IndiGo Airlines has acknowledged the mid-air altercation. In a social media statement, the airline confirmed that the co-passenger who slapped Majumdar was identified as unruly and handed over to security authorities upon arrival. Legal proceedings are underway, the airline said, adding that its crew followed all standard procedures during the incident. However, the statement did not mention any details regarding Majumdar’s current status or efforts to locate him.
