In a move to provide better convenience to passengers and help them plan their journey in a better way, Railways have decided to revise the timings of preparation and release of reservation charts of Mail & Express trains.

Presently Reservation Charts with information of reserved passengers’ name, coach and berth details are prepared and released 4 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the train from the originating station or remote location station.

As per directives from the Railway Board, with effect from 10.07.2025, the First Reservation Chart of the train will now be prepared 8 am before the scheduled departure of the train (instead of the 4 hrs earlier).

As per the revised charting time:

• For trains scheduled to depart between 05:00 hrs and 2 pm  the First Reservation Chart will be prepared by 9 pm of the previous day.

• For trains scheduled to depart between 2 pm  to 05 am, the First Reservation Chart will be prepared 8 hrs before the scheduled departure of the train.

• There will be no change in the existing procedure for the second reservation chart, which shall continue as per extant provisions.

• The Final Reservation Chart will continue to be prepared 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.

Passengers will be able to book vacant berths before the Final Chart is prepared.

Passengers to please note the change in Charting  timings.

This move will enable passengers to plan their journeys in a better way and will eliminate the last hour rush to reach boarding stations.

This proactive step underscores Indian Railways' commitment to streamlining passenger services and operational readiness, benefitting both staff and passengers alike.
