New Delhi: The Indian Defence Forces held a high-level press briefing on Operation Sindoor on Monday, May 12. The briefing began with the visuals of debris of a Pakistani Mirage fighter jet.

Addressing the media, Air Marshal AK Bharti credited the coordinated efforts of the Air Force, Army, and Navy for foiling Pakistan’s aerial offensive. The briefing was jointly led by Lieutenant General Rajeev Ghai, Vice Admiral AN Pramod, and Air Marshal Bharti.

Air Marshal Bharti further highlighted that all three branches of the Indian military (Army, Navy, and Air Force) were activated to counter Pakistan’s recent escalation. “India’s robust air defence (AD) system consists of a wide range of multi-layered capabilities and weapon systems designed to counter aerial threats at various levels,” he said.

The Indian response involved a mix of short-range and long-range defences, including point-defence assets like low-altitude air defence guns, shoulder-fired MANPADS, and short-range surface-to-air missiles. For extended coverage, the military also deployed air defence aircraft and long-range SAM platforms.

The military also displayed debris of seemingly a PL-15 air-to-air missile. The Chinese-origin missile was reportedly used by Pakistan during the attack on India.

Defence officials assured that all Indian military installations remain secure and are fully prepared to respond to any threat to national sovereignty.

About Operation Sindoor

The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, a precision military response targeting nine terror-linked sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, identified as hubs for planning attacks against India.

The strikes, carried out with deliberate restraint, avoided Pakistani military installations and focused solely on terror infrastructure to prevent escalation.

This decisive action came after the brutal Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives, including one Nepali national. The military confirmed that around 100 terrorists were neutralised during the operation.
