PM Responds to Family's Appeal

According to a report by PTI, the meeting was arranged after Kanpur Lok Sabha MP Ramesh Awasthi wrote to the Prime Minister’s Office, requesting Modi to meet the bereaved family. In the letter, Awasthi conveyed the family’s appreciation for Operation Sindoor, India's retaliatory strike in response to the terror attack, saying it had brought “peace to the soul of Shubham.”

Shubham, who had married Ashanya just two months prior on February 12, was on a trip to Pahalgam with his wife and other relatives when terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists.

Speaking about Operation Sindoor in his public address in Karakat, PM Modi said, "The people of Sasaram know the customs of Lord Ram. 'Praan jaaye par vachan na jaaye'... After the dreadful terrorist attack in Pahalgam, I had promised the country on the land of Bihar that the hideouts of the masters of terrorism would be razed to the ground, that they would get a punishment bigger than they could ever imagine. Today, when I have come to Bihar, I have come here after fulfilling my promise."

PM Modi also spoke about India's BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system, which got back into spotlight after Operation Sindoor. He said, "In Operation Sindoor, the world has witnessed the strength of India’s indigenous weapons and the power of Make-in-India. Our Indian weapons, like the BrahMos missile, struck deep into the enemy’s territory and caused destruction."

Following the personal meeting, Modi resumed his official engagements in Uttar Pradesh, where he is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several infrastructure projects. A key highlight is the Rs 2,120 crore Kanpur Metro Rail expansion, including the newly completed stretch from Chunniganj to Kanpur Central, which features five new underground stations.

He also flagged off the road widening and strengthening of the GT Road, part of a broader initiative to improve regional connectivity and boost urban mobility.
