Even as the death toll mounted to five following the communal clashes which erupted during a religious procession in Nuh town of Haryana on Monday, the violence spilled over to several areas of adjoining Gurugram district where a religious place and many shops were vandalised on Tuesday.
Mosque & shops in Gurugram set on fire
While a mosque was set on fire in sector 57 in Gurugram by mobs carrying petrol bombs in wee hours of Tuesday in which one of its employee who was sleeping inside, was also shot dead, mobs of miscreants vandalised more than 14 shops mostly selling "briyani" in Badshahpur and seven other shops in Sector 66 of Gurugram, besides several others, on Tuesday afternoon.
At least four eatery shops and scrap shops were also vandalised in sector 66 of Gurugram when mobs of over 200 motorcycle or cars-borne men hurled petrol bottles at them. A number of vehicles including some police vehicles were also reported to have been set on fire across the two districts.
Section 144 imposed in several districts, schools shut
As the tension prevailed in the Nuh and adjoining districts, the state government issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC banning assembly of four or more people in Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal and Rewari district as well.
The mobile internet services which were suspended in Nuh and Faridabad districts since Monday were also imposed and suspended in adjoining areas of Sohna, Pataudi and Manesar areas of Gurugram till Wednesday.
Likewise, all the government and private schools and colleges in Nuh and Sohna sub-division of Gurugram were ordered to remain closed till Wednesday.
70 arrested, 44 FIRs registered
Meanwhile, according to official information, so far 70 people have been nabbed in different cases while in all, 44 FIRs had been registered. Also, as many as 30 companies of Haryana police and 16 companies of central forces had been deployed in Nuh since Monday.
Meanwhile, according to information reaching here, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal on Tuesday threatened to hold demonstrations on Delhi-Haryana border on Wednesday.
Haryana CM says clashes part of big conspiracy
Meanwhile, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar who along with home minister Anil Vij held a meeting with the top administrative and police officers said in a statement that the clashes appeared to be part of a big conspiracy. Terming the Nuh violence as an unfortunate incident he said it appeared to be a pre-planned and conspired event.
Khattar said that the incident appears to be part of a larger conspiracy, as the "Samajik Yatra" had been taking place annually for several years and that the authorities were now investigating the incident further to comprehend the underlying causes and potential motives behind it.
At least 5 killed, over 50 injured
It may be recalled that five people have so far been killed and over 50 people including policemen injured – at least three of them critically – following the Monday clashes between two communities. The violence began after miscreants pelted stones and set several vehicles on fire during a religious procession ‘Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra’ taken out by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal on Monday.
The clashes which followed led to the killing of four people including two home guards – the fifth casualty was reported with the killing of the mosque employee - while at least 12 other police personnel were also grievously hurt – three of them critically – following the clashes.
The state home department has announced Rs 57 lakh relief for the support of the families of two deceased home guards – Neeraj and Gursev.
Nuh town is in the district named as the same (earlier called Mewat).
Meanwhile, peace committee meetings were held in Nuh as well as parts of Gurugram on Tuesday with the committee leaders assuring the government that they would help in maintaining the peace.
